Governance & Organizational Structure
The Turkish Society of Histology and Embryology (THED) operates in accordance with its Statute and is structured to ensure democratic governance, financial transparency, ethical integrity, professional accountability, and academic excellence, in line with European professional association standards.
1. General Assembly
The General Assembly is the supreme governing authority of THED. It consists of all full members and holds ultimate decision-making power regarding constitutional amendments, elections, financial approvals, and strategic policies.
All governing bodies of the Society are accountable to the General Assembly.
2. Audit Committee
The Audit Committee functions independently from the Executive Board and reports directly to the General Assembly.
It oversees financial management, budget implementation, and regulatory compliance to ensure transparency and accountability.
3. Ethics Committee
The Ethics Committee operates as an independent supervisory body responsible for safeguarding ethical standards in scientific, educational, and professional activities.
It evaluates ethical concerns, professional conduct issues, and potential conflicts of interest in accordance with national legislation and international ethical principles.
4. Disciplinary Committee
The Disciplinary Committee is responsible for reviewing alleged violations of the Society’s Statute, internal regulations, and professional standards by members.
Its duties include:
- Initiating and conducting disciplinary investigations
- Determining appropriate disciplinary measures within the authority granted by the Statute
- Ensuring due process, fairness, and transparency in disciplinary proceedings
- Reviewing appeals in accordance with the Society’s internal regulations
The Disciplinary Committee operates independently in its decision-making process and acts to protect the institutional integrity, mission, and reputation of the Society.
5. Executive Board
The Executive Board is the executive and administrative body of the Society. It implements the decisions of the General Assembly and manages the daily operations of THED.
The Executive Board represents the Society nationally and internationally and coordinates scientific, financial, and organizational activities.
The Board operates under the oversight of the General Assembly and in compliance with the recommendations and supervisory roles of the Audit, Ethics, and Disciplinary Committees.
6. Medical Specialty Qualification Board
The Medical Specialty Qualification Board of THED is responsible for matters related to specialty training standards, competency assessment, and professional qualification in the field of histology and embryology.
The Board works in close coordination with the Executive Board in matters of policy implementation and educational planning. However, it remains institutionally accountable to the Executive Board and operates within the framework of the Society’s Statute.
Its responsibilities include:
- Defining and updating specialty training standards
- Supporting accreditation and competency evaluation processes
- Contributing to national and international harmonization of specialty education
- Providing advisory input on qualification and certification matters
